Tech-days UK – Virtualization Summit

I managed to attend the first two days and here’s my opinion of day 1.

Change car battery 2am, office 5am getting laptop, airport 6am queue, meet Adam queue, Plane, queue capital London!

Airport queue, tube queue, Cinema queue – Tech days.

Summary: informative for my consultancy role and while it was not the tech depth I would have liked, it made sense I was there and I learnt, made notes and would go again.

As I expected after my 3 month teaching / learning course, when I already knew the product I automatically made analytical notes on the presenters and their slides, pinching ideas to redistribute into the learning cycle.  What hath this teaching course done to me?

Highlight, I had MS partner questions and got some time with one of the presenters whom answered my questions with value add in his lunch time, cheers!  I note he has also passed and posted good advice on Exam 70-659: TS: Windows Server 2008 R2, Server Virtualization, you can read about that here

Having enjoyed more afternoon queue’s for coffee, queues for toilets the Tech day wrapped up, I have never been a virtual cinema so long!

But that was far from the end of the day, Adam and I on our mission queued a little more on the way out then blended into the ebb and flow of the “Big Underground moving Queue System”.  This queue transported us to Microsoft in Victoria, a little late for more learning.  I think after 6pm there is a queue curfew as we didn’t see any more to join, we just dived into a WSUG Event – BranchCache & Migration to Windows Server 2008 R2.  This event was presented by Joey Snow and we agreed it was well worth tackling that last queue to get there.  We learnt something in a very casual and interactive environment.

We both had the pleasure of chatting with the organisers and some attendees afterwards,  about the user groups and technology, it’s a good choice for us to try and replicate that here in the sunny island of Jersey.

To finish off the evening I carefully selected a low cost nearby hotel of £35 to counter my £270 airfare and just as was drifting off was alarmed to hear a queue of rodents lining up at my rucksack to get my Fruit & Nut bar, I spent the next few hours up and down like a yoyo.

Top tips, book hotels in advance, avoid queues and attend User group events in subjects you like :-)

The decision engine has put back that informative picture of Tuscany.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could choose a period such as the renaissance and have it cycle through the period?
