Cloud librarian?

It’s been quite a few years since I gave a presentation on a deployment of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Beta 2.

At the time I had implemented it to help bring some increasing virtual sprawl under control.  That sprawl was identified, agents deployed and all quickly under the watchful eye of Virtual Machine Manager.

Being the SCVMM admin aka VM lifecycle management guy I once pondered the role of a virtual librarian, always trying to keep order among iso’s, templates, vhd files, virtual machines and hosts.

Everyday I could be found loitering in the virtual library with intent to deploy or chasing people to check in outstanding VM’s they allegedly only need for a few weeks or months!

So what next with SCVMM?

SCVMM 2012

This has been talked about at length, there are two TechEd online sessions, ZDNet posted a review full of screenshots and most the bloggers I follow have shared their thoughts on it for a long time.  From what I have read and seen we will getting some significant changes, lots of new innovative features and some new terminology.

imageI noted in a screenshot a Cloud Library, interesting, could Cloud librarian become a job title of the future? Somebody has to keep order in the private clouds…

Next week I’ll be at MMS 2011 in learning mode discovering what’s new and finding out deployment tips and best practice from the experts. On the what’s new with VMM front, here are some of the sessions I’m most excited about.
